Annual Salary: $153,585 - $230,377 DOE/DOQ

The City of Sacramento, California is seeking a Director of Utilities (Director) who is well-versed in water supply, sewer, flood protection, and drainage issues to serve as a technical expert and executive leader for the City. The Director will oversee the Department of Utilities (DOU), including 573 staff, an annual capital improvement budget of approximately $42.5 million, and annual operational budget of approximately $188 million. The ideal candidate will empower staff to develop innovative solutions and improve systems within the DOU and champion the Department's Healthy Organization Initiatives: highly functioning teams, organizational clarity, over communication, and human systems consistent with organizational clarity. They will demonstrate the DOU's values of customer service, employee development, integrity, communication, and innovation and serve as a steadfast and trustworthy leader. The Director will be an exemplary project manager, relationship builder, and proactive planner. They will oversee a wide variety of challenges, such as difficult citizen inquiries and emergency responses to water main breaks, sewer overflows, and flooding. Along with knowing about the functionality of water, wastewater, and drainage systems, the Director will champion more sustainable efforts in these operations and develop solutions based on the City's current and future needs.
